Trauma, that is, painful unresolved events in the past, may affect everyday living in the present. Trauma can arise from many sources besides catastrophic events such as war, catastrophic events, childhood physical, sexual or emotional abuse. It may arise from illness, painful or disturbing emotional experiences, an accident or adjusting to sudden changes in life. Trauma may affect each individual differently and may result in PTSD, anxieties and panic attacks, and a range of emotional issues and problems.
At Psychodos, we work with trauma-based problems across all ages from children to adults. We are aware that each individual has their unique experience of stress and how they have been coping with it. Bearing this in mind we draw from a range of evidence-based therapies to match the needs of each individual client so you know how to deal with trauma.
One of the highly effective therapies drawn on is EMDR (Eye Motion Desensitisation and Reprocessing). Dr Steve Hansen makes extensive use of this therapy and has specialised training in its use in both children and adults.
